It's all about the "specialness"...

And it works both ways.

It's obvious why ND would want to continue to be "special" in college football. Every game they play is in a packed stadium with the whole country watching (or so they think).

The ACC deal is pretty clever for the ACC. In ND's history, they have so many "storied" games against B1G teams like Sparty, Mee-Chicken and even Pur-doodoo. Those games have been mostly replaced with ACC teams for the next 20 years. The deal is only two years old and ND has played 10 games against ACC teams. Results have been great for the ACC.

* Already 2 "instant classics": @FSU in '14 and @Clemson in '15.
* A surprising "near upset" / "pull a win out of your Gipper" @uva in '15.
* Home loss to the 'Ville in '14
* Close games against UNC in '14 and BC in '15 at Fenway.

Yes, there will be some dogs along the way. Games against Wake and Cuse will be / have been snoozers... like Nevada. But win or lose, for the next 20 years, the ACC will get good buzz over these games... just like the B1G has been doing.

And think about it... if ND was in the ACC the last few years, they would be a good team, but not good enough to compete with the best teams. They would lose some of that "specialness". ND doesn't want that. The ACC might be better off this way.
